GULF Partners with Government Sector to Strengthen Air Quality Monitoring in Lao PDR Enhancing Forest Fire Monitoring, Tracking and Control to Mitigate Transboundary Haze Pollution
Gulf Development Public Company Limited (GULF), led by Mr. Sitamon Ratanavadi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility Management, participated in the official handover of automated air quality monitoring stations to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) during the official visit of His Excellency Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Lao PDR, and his delegation to Thailand.
The visit marked a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Lao PDR, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Natural Resources and Environmental Cooperation. The agreement is designed to promote and advance collaboration in environmental management and technical cooperation based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit. Areas of cooperation encompass air, water and soil pollution prevention and control, wetland conservation, climate change adaptation, disaster management, the application of remote sensing technologies, and human resource capacity building, enabling both countries to address environmental challenges more effectively and sustainably.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, together with senior officials from both countries at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The donation of automated air quality monitoring stations reflects GULF’s steadfast commitment to sustainable business operations integrated with social and environmental stewardship. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of monitoring, tracking, and controlling forest fires in high-risk areas, while helping to mitigate the impacts of transboundary haze pollution and PM2.5. By strengthening environmental monitoring capabilities, the project seeks to improve air quality and contribute to the well-being of communities in both countries.
The initiative is fully aligned with Thailand’s CLEAR Sky Strategy and further reinforces GULF’s role as a key strategic partner committed to supporting public sector efforts in addressing environmental challenges at both national and regional levels in a sustainable manner.
