Gulf understands that sustainability refers to the company’s long-term success
which must be achieved through sound business practice, ethical competitiveness, social and environmental
responsibility, and creation of shared value for all our stakeholders. As such, we have adopted the United
Nations Sustainable Development Agenda as the foundation upon which our approach to sustainability has been
built.
The United Nations Agenda is grounded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and lays out 17
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were developed to further the successes of the Millennium
Development Goals introduced at the start of the millennium. At its heart, the Sustainable Development
Agenda aims to eradicate poverty, protect the environment, and create prosperous societies free from
inequality and discrimination. The SDGs thus cover issues pertaining to the economic, environmental and
social dimensions of sustainable development and encourage the fostering of peaceful societies and strong
partnerships.
Gulf endeavors to do our part in helping to achieve the SDGs by encouraging responsible business practices,
taking into account our social and environmental obligations to the local communities around our power
plants as well as the society at large. As risk is an inherent part of business, we have adopted a
precautionary approach in our decision-making in order to ensure that we minimize any negative impacts that
may occur to the society or environment as a result of our actions. More importantly, we have set out to
increase our positive impact on the country, supporting initiatives that we believe will create benefits in
all three aspects of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental.
